Just like the ‘theres’ and ‘yours’, its and it’s mean different things. Which one is the right one to use, and when?
Its
Its is a possessive form of the pronoun it. That means that whatever your discussing belongs to ‘it.’

That old house has its charms.
The boat lost its propellor.
This form of it is describing posession.
It’s
This form of it describes posession. It’s a contraction (see what I did there) combining ‘it’ and ‘is’ or ‘has.’
Examples:
My car broke down; it’s got a spare tire.
My dog lost her stick, but it’s in the garden.
