How are you supposed to use apostrophes? When do you need one? What’s the difference between plural and posessive?

Plural

Is there more than one of something? If so, add an ‘S’ (or ‘ies.’) Yes, it’s that simple!

Examples:

Puppy becomes puppies
Book becomes books
Friend becomes friends

Possessive

This is where the apostrophes come in- they imply ownership. So when you’re talking about ownership, you add the apostrophe before the ‘s.’

Examples:

That’s the puppy’s ball.
Hand me the book’s dust cover.
That’s my friend’s podcast.

Plural Possessive

Now we add them both together. If you’re describing something plural and posessive, you add the ‘s’ to make it plural, and then add the apostrophe at the end.

That’s it!

Examples:

Those are the puppies’ tennis balls.
Those are the books’ dust covers.
That’s my friends’ podcast.
