A haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world, but can be about whatever you like.
Examples of haikus are:
“The Old Pond” by Matsuo Bashō
An old silent pond
A frog jumps into the pond—
Splash! Silence again.
“A World of Dew” by Kobayashi Issa
A world of dew,
And within every dewdrop
A world of struggle.

Write a haiku! If you’d like to be more traditional, write something about nature.
Look outside the window. What do you see? What can you hear? Do you smell anything, like flowers, rain, freshly cut grass, or fallen leaves? Get inspired by the beautiful world around you!
